funny girl

Barbara Streisand has come a long way from her humble beginnings in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Even after her own mother tried to discourage her from getting into show business due to her looks, Barbara kept her eye on the prize. She started out in the early 60's singing on the nightclub circuit in New York's Greenwich Village and some off Broadway productions. Her first big break in 1964 came with the role of Fanny Brice in the Broadway production of Funny Girl. Two years later she played the same role for the feature film and became not only a household name but a style icon.
Though not a conventional beauty, Barbara has intense and striking features and has always expertly played them up. She's never been afraid to be bold and make daring style choices both in her wardrobe and with her hair and make-up. Though I have never really been a fan of musicals, there is no doubt that this woman had boatloads of talent as a singer, actress, producer, director, and comedienne.
