down by the river

This past Saturday we attended the second annual Shadfest held in Penn Treaty Park on the Delaware. The festival was created as an effort to raise money for improving the park and local community and also to bring awareness to the Shad fish that was once running rampant in the local rivers of the North East so much that it was called The Founding Fish by early settlers. Now it isn't as easy to come by after generations of over fishing and polluted rivers. But improvements are being made!
We lucked out with 70 degrees & sunny skies and over 4000 visitors. All in all, it was a beautiful day in the park and so great to spend the day outside with friends and neighbors. We look forward to our next festival in June in Northern Liberties. More on that later...

The Apocalypse

It is no secret that Christophe Decarnin is the hottest thing going in fashion since he took over the house of Balmain a few years ago. Lending an edgier hand to the line, he has permanently altered the fashion world with his highly padded, highly sequined shoulders. His Spring 2010 collection described as ‘disco cavewoman goes to the front’ is another blockbuster. It may be a bit contrived to pay thousands of dollars for a garment that is torn or unfinished, but in the doomed society we’re living in, I think he got it spot on. If the 2012 Mayan calendar doesn’t get us first, then global warming will be right behind. As far as I’m concerned if we’re going out Road Warrior style, this is exactly how I want to be dressed.
